And the Word was made flesh, and
dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten
of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

But we all, with open face
beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same
image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
The Heavenly Voice at Christ's
Baptism
Matt. 3:16-17 (Mk. 1:9-11;
Lk. 3:21f)
And Jesus, when he was baptized,
went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto
him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon
him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in
whom I am well pleased.
Deut 18:15ff
The LORD thy God will raise up
unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me;
unto him ye shall hearken...
Moses Vision on Mount Sinai
Ex 24:15-18
And Moses went up into the mount,
and a cloud covered the mount. And the glory of the LORD abode upon
mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he
called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud. And the sight of the
glory of the LORD was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the
eyes of the children of Israel. And Moses went into the midst of the
cloud, and gat him up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days
and forty nights.
Elijah's Vision on Mount Horeb
1 Kings 19:8f
8 And he arose, and did eat and
drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights
unto Horeb the mount of God. And he came thither unto a cave, and
lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said
unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the
children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and
slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they
seek my life, to take it away. And he said, Go forth, and stand upon
the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and
strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the
LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake;
but the LORD was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but
the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle,
and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there
came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah? And he
said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the
children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and
slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they
seek my life, to take it away. And the LORD said unto him, Go, return
on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint
Hazael to be king over Syria: And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint
to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt
thou anoint to be prophet in thy room. And it shall come to pass, that
him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth
from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay. Yet I have left me seven
thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every
mouth which hath not kissed him.
The Cloud:
Ps. 97:2-5
Clouds and darkness are round
about him: righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne.
A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his enemies round about. His
lightnings enlightened the world: the earth saw, and trembled. The
hills melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the
Lord of the whole earth.
Two Witnesses:
At the empty tomb
Luke 24:4-7
And it came to pass, as they were
much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining
garments: And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth,
they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here,
but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and
be crucified, and the third day rise again.
At the Ascension
Acts 1:10
And while they looked stedfastly
toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this
same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like
manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
In Revelation
Rev. 11:3-12
And I will give power unto my two
witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore
days, clothed in sackcloth.
4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before
the God of the earth.
5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and
devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this
manner be killed.
6 These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their
prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the
earth with all plagues, as often as they will.
7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that
ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall
overcome them, and kill them.
8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which
spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
9 And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see
their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead
bodies to be put in graves.
10 And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make
merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets
tormented them that dwelt on the earth.
11 And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into
them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which
saw them.
12 And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up
hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld
them.
