THE COLLECT.
O God, who on the holy mount didst reveal to
chosen witnesses thy well-beloved Son wonderfully transfigured:
Mercifully grant unto us such a vision of his divine majesty, that we,
being purified and strengthened by thy grace, may be transformed into
his likeness from glory to glory; through the same thy Son Jesus Christ
our Lord. Amen.
THE EPISTLE. 2 S. Peter 1. 16.
We have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we
made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but
were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the
Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the
excellent glory,
This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with
him in the holy mount. We have also a more sure word of prophecy;
whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in
a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private
interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will
of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
THE GOSPEL. S. Matthew 17. 1.
After six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his
brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, and was
transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his
raiment was white as the light. And, behold, there appeared unto
them Moses and Elias talking with him. Then answered Peter, and
said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let
us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one
for Elias. While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed
them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said,
This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased;
hear ye him.
And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore
afraid. And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be
not afraid. And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no
man, save Jesus only. And as they came down from the mountain,
Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of
man be risen again from the dead.

INTROIT. Ps
84:1-7
O how amiable are thy dwellings : thou Lord of hosts!
2. My soul hath a desire and longing to enter into the courts of the
Lord : my heart and my flesh rejoice in the living God.
3. Yea, the sparrow hath found her an house, and the swallow a nest
where she may lay her young : even thy altars, O Lord of hosts, my King
and my God.
4. Blessed are they that dwell in thy house : they will be alway
praising thee.
5. Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee : in whose heart are thy
ways.
6. Who going through the vale of misery use it for a well : and the
pools are filled with water.
7. They will go from strength to strength : and unto the God of gods
appeareth every one of them in Sion.
Glory be.
GRADUAL.
Ps 84:8-13
O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer : hearken, O God of
Jacob.
9. Behold, O God our defender : and look upon the face of thine
Anointed.
10. For one day in thy courts : is better than a thousand.
11. I had rather be a door-keeper in the house of my God : than to dwell
in the tents of ungodliness.
12. For the Lord God is a light and defence : the Lord will give grace
and worship, and no good thing shall he withhold from them that live a
godly life.
13. O Lord God of hosts : blessed is the man that putteth his trust in
thee.
